Isipatana-Thomian game the pick

The clash between the formidable Isipatana College and S. Thomas’ College, Mount Lavinia on May 2 (Saturday) at Havelock Park is the pick of the matches scheduled for this week in the Schools Under 20 Division One Segment ‘A’ Rugby Tournament.
Last year the Thomians edged out Isipatana by 17-15 at Mount Lavinia and another thrilling match is on the cards on Saturday. On the same day (May 2) defending champions Kingswood College will play host to Mahanama at Bogambara while the Trinitians will confront St. Joseph’s College at Pallekelle.
The Royalists who scored a thrilling 37-33 win over S. Thomas will be the guests of St. Anthony’s at Nittawala. Dharmaraja too will take on St. Peter’s in Kandy either on May 2 or 3.
Ten schools will be playing in the Under 20 Division One and each school will have to play nine matches. Both segment ‘A’ and ‘B’ tournaments will have to be concluded in the first week of July.
Altogether 295 matches will be played in the tournament.
Those decisions were taken at a meeting between Director of Sports of the Education Ministry L.K. Jayaweera, Acting CEO of the SLRFU and Co-ordinator of the tournament Lasitha Gunaratne and representatives of the participating schools at the Education Ministry at Isurupaya.
